Fight Hunger. Spark Change. 2016

March 28, 2016 - April 25, 2016

FightHunger

Buy products. Donate at the register. Share your efforts. Small acts will add up to big aid for those fighting hunger through Walmart’s “Fight Hunger. Spark Change” campaign that begins today across the nation.

The Treasure Coast community can participate in the campaign in several ways, including just shopping at Walmart for items from participating manufacturers. The campaign is expected to generate the equivalent of 75 million meals for Treasure Coast Food Bank and other Feeding America partners.

“We’re extremely thankful for Walmart’s Fight Hunger. Spark Change campaign,” Treasure Coast Food Bank CEO Judy Cruz said. “We get tremendous support from the Walmarts on the Treasure Coast, and this is just one more very easy way that Walmart and the community will help us to fight hunger here at home.”

From now through April 25, there are three easy ways to Fight Hunger and Spark Change:

  • Every time you purchase a participating product in Walmart stores, the manufacturer will donate 9 cents to Feeding America, up to the manufacturer’s maximum donation. Several national brands are participating, including Campbell’s, General Mills, Kellogg’s, KraftHeinz, and Pepsico.
  • Using #FightHunger on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram when you share and like campaign posts or showing support on www.Walmart.com/fighthunger also will generate donations. Twitter has developed a custom emoji for the Fight Hunger. Spark Change campaign. When you Tweet using the hashtag #FightHunger, the custom emoji will appear after the hashtag. For each online act of support, Walmart will donate enough to help Feeding America secure 10 meals on behalf of member food banks.

Walmart will kick off the campaign with an initial donation of $1.5 million to Feeding America, and has set a goal of reaching a total donation of $3 million based on the public’s social engagement.

Shoppers also can donate at cash registers in Treasure Coast Walmarts. All donations made from Treasure Coast ZIP codes will benefit Treasure Coast Food Bank and those struggling with hunger on the Treasure Coast.

Hunger has been a persistent problem on the Treasure Coast and across America. Every week, Treasure Coast Food Bank and its partner agencies distribute more than 105,000 meals to people who don’t have enough to eat, including children, seniors and veterans.
