Each Tuesday, members of the Fort Pierce Police Department volunteer to gather with local children and enjoy a couple of hours of play, confidence-building, education — and nutritious food.
While meeting each week at a local park, the kids are treated to a nutritious meal that is provided by Sarah’s Kitchen, a Treasure Coast Food Bank agency partner.
Around 90 kids between the ages of 3 and 18 show up each week for the event. Angela Brathwaite, a Fort Pierce P.D. Officer, says every effort is made to ensure there is plenty of variety in the meals that are offered to give kids more opportunity to try new food.
Both the children and event staff leave the event each week a bit changed and inspired, and the police presence at the park provides a safe and fun environment that kids can count on throughout the year.
Angela says she especially enjoys “seeing the kids become adults and come back around to help in the community, and kids looking up to them.”
“This is important for the kids to see that things can get better,” she says.
Thank you for partnering with Treasure Coast Food Bank and our entire community to promote a brighter, healthier future for us all. Your support again today will help put healthy food on the table for Treasure Coast children and neighbors of all ages.
