Join Treasure Coast Food Bank (TCFB) in helping to alleviate the root causes of hunger and poverty along the Treasure Coast in St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee & Indian River County. TCFB needs your help developing creative solutions for our local poverty conditions that will serve as sustainable pathways out of poverty. Working with TCFB is an excellent opportunity for you to strategically co-create an innovative initiative in the anti-poverty field and sharpen your communications, research, and writing skills along the way!

 

*This is a 1-year contract with Vista, starting 6-17-2024 – 6-16-2025.

 

What will you do as Treasure Coast Food Bank’s VISTA – Market Fresh/Park-it-Market?

 

The Ending Hunger Coordinator VISTA Member will help increase TCFB’s effectiveness in addressing generalized poverty and food insecurity throughout the Treasure Coast. You will be missioned with helping to co-create the Ending Hunger Tomorrow Initiative, a four-county network that will a) better connect resource-limited populations with resources and services that will help them achieve more substantial financial and food-security levels and b) forge a greater sense of community-wide empathy towards the root causes of food insecurity and poverty, to reduce hunger more significantly.

 

*High school diploma/GED required

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all areas of food bank operations and distribution (examples: mobile food distribution, retail food truck ride-along, work with our in-house industrial kitchen, and participating in community events)
  • Support our Market Fresh and Park-it-Market (mobile grocery programs), and engage with Neighbors through surveying and researching potential routes
  • Help support Hunger Action month (5k, auction, pack events)

Benefits

  • A bi-weekly living allowance of $877.66 to cover necessities during service
  • An AmeriCorps Education Award of approximately $6,000 (or cash stipend of approximately $1,800)

VISTAs who relocate more than 50 miles are eligible for a relocation allowance ($750 settling-in plus $.40/mile from their home of record to the service site location address – provided by Corporation for National Service)
