Community Urged to Join the Effort to End Hunger

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Aug. 26, 2024 – September is Hunger Action Month – on the Treasure Coast 1 in 4 people including children face hunger and food insecurity. During this impactful month-long campaign, Treasure Coast Food Bank is committed to raising awareness and inspiring collective action to end hunger along Treasure Coast. Throughout the month, Treasure Coast Food Bank is inspiring action through several events, including Light Up Orange and the 4th Annual Out Run Hunger 5K.

In September, community members and businesses who participate in the Light Up Orange campaign will receive a complimentary orange light bulb or film for their fixtures to light up their spaces to show their support of ending hunger in the community. On Saturday, Sept. 21, the Out Run Hunger 5K returns to Causeway Cove Marina in Fort Pierce, with a goal of providing 200,000 meals.

“Hunger Action Month is our opportunity to harness our collective strength and address food insecurity within our community,” said Judith Cruz, President and CEO of Treasure Coast Food Bank. “Together, we have the power to drive positive change on the Treasure Coast. This month and beyond, our actions – whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy – will create a ripple effect, forging a path toward ending hunger.” Feeding America is encouraging one million actions across the country. As part of the Feeding America network, Treasure Coast Food Bank also partners with organizations nationwide to develop and share best practices and resources.

“We can end hunger in the U.S. when we decide to work together with coordinated action and a shared belief that everyone deserves fresh, nutritious food,” said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America. “This year during Hunger Action Month, we are encouraging everyone to take action.
