Offices closing at noon until storm clears

FORT PIERCE, Fla. Sept. 7, 2017 – Treasure Coast Food Bank is closing its doors this afternoon to allow its staff and volunteers time to prepare for Hurricane Irma and will remain closed through the duration of the storm.

Once the storm has cleared the Treasure Coast, Treasure Coast Food Bank will reopen and stand ready to distribute food and other essentials in cooperation with local disaster relief organizations.

“The food bank’s role during a hurricane or other natural disaster is not to act as a first responder, but to work cooperatively with other disaster relief organizations such as the American Red Cross and the United Way and serve as an avenue for distributing food and other essential items to them and our partner agencies,” said Treasure Coast Food Bank President and CEO Judith Cruz.

Once the hurricane passes, Treasure Coast Food Bank, in cooperation with first responders, will assess the needs of its four-county service area – Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin and Okeechobee counties. Working with the Feeding Florida statewide network of food banks, along with Feeding America, Treasure Coast Food Bank is ready to make food and other essential items available to those in greatest need.
