About This Program
The School Pantry Program is a collaborative effort between the food bank and local schools to provide students and their families with consistent access to nutritious food. Located directly on school campuses and after school programs, these pantries offer a convenient and stigma-free way for families to receive groceries, including fresh produce, proteins, and shelf-stable items. By meeting families where they are, the program helps reduce barriers such as transportation and time constraints.
The BackPack Program is a vital initiative designed to ensure that children facing food insecurity have access to nutritious meals over the weekend when school meals are not available. Each week, participating children discreetly receive a backpack filled with easy-to-prepare, kid-friendly food items such as canned meals, snacks, and breakfast items. These backpacks are distributed through schools and community partners, helping to bridge the gap between Friday lunch and Monday breakfast.
These programs not only address hunger but also support academic success and emotional well-being. When families have access to healthy food, students are better equipped to focus in class, maintain good health, and thrive both academically and socially. Our School Pantry and BackPack Programs strengthen the connection between schools and communities, creating a supportive environment where children and their families can flourish.
