2021 Senior CARE-a-Van rolls across the Treasure Coast this week
Treasure Coast Food Bank’s Senior CARE-a-Van rolled out this week, delivering 2,500 food boxes for seniors in need.
The CARE-a-Van departed from Treasure Coast Food Bank’s headquarters in Fort Pierce with a police escort from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office. It was destined to deliver the boxes to agencies serving low-income seniors in Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin and Okeechobee counties. The annual delivery of food boxes provides vulnerable seniors with a sense of security during the holidays when budgets are stretched.
“With the rising cost of food and other necessities, we know that our seniors on fixed incomes are facing difficult choices. The holidays can add to those difficulties, so we know the food boxes will benefit them this time of year,” said Judith Cruz, President and CEO of Treasure Coast Food Bank.
The boxes contain nutritious grocery items that seniors can prepare easily for themselves and that contribute to a healthy diet for seniors.
This marked the 7th year of the CARE-a-Van that typically takes place each holiday season to help seniors when they need it most.
Before the trucks rolled out, representatives from VFW Post #8058 in Fort Pierce presented Treasure Coast Food Bank with a $1,000 donation to help feed seniors, children and families in need during the holidays.
