In 2023, Treasure Coast Food Bank had more than 10,000 volunteers provided over 45,000 hours of service to their community. Volunteer opportunities range from sorting and boxing food, distribution and home deliveries, administrative services, outreach, food drive pick-ups, event support, and more.

We are currently looking for people to join our Treasure Coast Food Corps – a group dedicated to supporting our efforts in a variety of areas.

From sorting food to preparing meals,
Treasure Coast Food Bank offers several different ways you can serve!

Summer Meals Program (June-August)

This program prepares and distributes breakfast, lunch, and snacks for children on summer vacation. Volunteers will receive a briefing on the day’s meal(s) to be distributed to Summer Meals Program sites; issue and document Summer Meals, load meals into hot/cold holding containers; accurately document times that meals were picked-up, equipment was returned and issued; wash, clean, sanitize & store kitchen tools, containers & equipment. Assist with general pick-up/clean-up as needed and  requested by Executive Chef: wash, sanitize and store kitchen tools and equipment, prep for next day’s meal, sweep, mop and store supplies as needed.
Where: Treasure Coast Food Bank Production Kitchen
Who: Up to 30 volunteers per shift
Age Requirement:  18 years of age
Dress Code: Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a kitchen environment.

Warehouse Sorting & Packing

Groups and individuals work together to sort and/or pack produce, nonperishable foods, and household items, preparing them for distribution. Duties may include checking for expiration dates, opened packages and spoilage, labeling cans, and packing bags of produce.

Who: Individuals; up to 65 volunteers (Weekdays), Up to 200 volunteers (Saturdays)
Age Requirement: Minimum Age is eight years old and requires adult supervision.
Dress Code: Due to safety concerns all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a warehouse environment.

Friends & Family

Friends & Family Volunteer Day is a day that celebrates the power of families working together to make a difference! It’s a perfect opportunity for parents and mentors to bond with and teach children valuable, real-life lessons about compassion and the power of making a difference.

Who: Individuals; up to 200 volunteers
Age Requirement: Minimum Age is eight years old and requires adult supervision.

Groups & Team Building

Volunteering is a great team building exercise for your company or group. Group volunteer events can make a big impact on the fight against hunger in your local community. Ask your employer’s human resources department for information about your company’s National Day (or Week) of Service activities

Mobile Volunteer

This is a wonderful opportunity to provide direct service to some of the most vulnerable people of your community. Volunteers participating in our Volunteer Delivery Program will deliver perishable and non-perishable food items directly to the homes of clients in our community.

Drivers will be provided with orientation and training as well as tracking your mileage for deductions if they wish.

Age Requirement: 18 years of age
Additional Requirements: Must be willing to allow a criminal background check performed by Treasure Coast Food Bank (separate link will be emailed). Drivers must provide proof of a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.

Mobile Pantry Volunteer

Every month Treasure Coast Food Bank provides a mobile pantry within each of the four counties we serve – Indian River, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties.  Volunteers assist the Mobile Pantry Coordinator by breaking down pallets of product, packing bags if necessary and handing out product to clients. Volunteers will also collect vouchers from clients and help with traffic control, verify clients have vouchers before receiving product, if a client does not have a voucher then qualify client and assisting them with voucher, as directed. Duties will also include cleaning up the area and stacking pallets and trash into truck. Events usually last around 3-4 hours

Who:  Up to 50 volunteers
Age Requirement: Minimum age is eight years old and requires adult supervision.
Dress Code: For safety, absolutely no sandals or flip-flops, please wear closed-toed shoes. Dress for the weather including sunscreen and hat. Volunteers may want to bring gloves.

Outreach & Event Volunteer

Throughout the year Treasure Coast Food Bank participates in a variety of events throughout our four-county service area.  Volunteers serve as ambassadors spreading the word about the work we do at outreach events. They also assist with behind-the-scenes duties for events including soliciting donations and sponsorships and onsite event setup and breakdowns.

Who:  Varies depending on event
Age Requirement: Minimum age is 15 years old.
Dress Code:  Varies. Volunteers should wear cloth that is appropriate for the specific type of event that are assisting with.

Administrative Services Volunteer

Volunteers are needed for a variety of administrative tasks including internet research, letter folding, stapling pamphlets, data entry, answering phones, etc. Your skills can help the staff in valuable ways!

Social Sorting

Social Sorting is a new series of events designed to create monthly volunteer opportunities for anyone looking for ongoing and meaningful experiences. ​ Make new friends, and give back to our community while enjoying treats, beverages, and great tunes. Laughs and a good time guaranteed.

Who: Individuals
Age Requirement: Adults 21 and older must present a photo ID to receive a wrist band and drink ticket which can be used during the second “social” half of the event. Minimum Age is eight years old and requires adult supervision.

Hunger Heroes – Volunteer Leadership Opportunities

Hunger Heroes teach, lead and mentor volunteers for warehouse sorting projects of up to 65 volunteers. This position requires an outgoing personality, verbal and motivational skills  and experience working with diverse populations including persons with special needs. This opportunity is perfect for retirees and students that are off for the summer & holidays. **Requires prescreening and willingness to make at least a three-month commitment to a regular schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What should I wear?

Volunteers must wear close-toed shoes and clothes appropriate to work in a warehouse setting. No sandals/flip-flops, extremely short skirts/shorts or low-cut shirts. Individuals wearing opened toed shoes will not be allowed in warehouse areas.

What are your age requirements?

We welcome volunteers eight years and older in our warehouse sorting and packing. Each volunteer under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult when volunteering alongside them. If you are chaperoning a group of youth volunteers, there must be a child/adult ratio of 1:5.

Do I need an appointment to volunteer?

Yes. We require all volunteers to be registered for any volunteer opportunities. Please utilize our online volunteer scheduling website to register as an individual or group – tcfoodbank.org/volunteer. Here you will be able to select your preferred volunteer site and shift. Where do I park?

Please park in any available parking slots around the building.

Do I need to sign-in?

Yes, each volunteer individual or group needs to sign in each time they volunteer at the Treasure Coast Food Bank. Upon arrival please visit our volunteer lobby desk for instructions on how to sign-in.

When I get there where do I go?

All volunteers are asked to report to the main lobby of our warehouse. We ask that you and/or group arrive 15 minutes prior to your shift in order to allow everyone an opportunity to sign in.

Does Treasure Coast Food Bank provide proof of volunteer service?

Yes, upon request Treasure Coast Food Bank will provide volunteers with a letter specifying the date of service and number of hours volunteered. Our lobby staff will also sign any school/church/community service forms after each session.

When bringing groups of youths, do you have requirements for chaperones?

Yes. Due to safety concerns each group is required to provide adult supervision. If you are chaperoning a group of youth volunteers, there must be a child/adult ratio of 1:5. Please include adult attendees in your online group registration.

Do I need to notify you if I need to cancel or the number of group volunteers changes?

Yes, it is important that you let Volunteer Services know if you cannot attend. Please confirm your headcount 72 hours prior by emailing us at volunteer@tcfoodbank.org.  Treasure Coast Food Bank determines it’s volunteer projects based on the number of volunteers scheduled. If you cannot make your volunteer shift please notify us 24 hours prior.

What is the food bank's policy on volunteers who are assigned court ordered community service hours?

Individuals who receive a court order to perform community service will be accepted on a case by case basis. Individuals convicted of certain serious offenses will not be accepted to volunteer due to potential safety risks for other volunteers and staff.

Can I donate food or money in lieu of community service hours?

We do accept monetary donations in lieu of community service hours however, there must be pre-approval of the court, private attorney or probation services. We do NOT accept food donations in lieu of community service hours.
