Treasure Coast Food Bank’s Pack The House presented by Wells Fargo sets goal of preparing 10,000 holiday meals

FORT PIERCE, Fla – Gather friends, family, and co-workers and head to Treasure Coast Food Bank for the 5th Annual Pack The House Presented by Wells Fargo on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26.

The 24-hour event brings the community together to make a difference in the lives of those who struggle with hunger. Volunteers of all ages will be participating to help Treasure Coast Food Bank package food for holiday meals with a goal of preparing 10,000 holiday food boxes by the end of the event.

“The holidays are a time when we yearn to enjoy the spirit of giving, and there’s no greater gift than giving your time to those who are less fortunate,” said Judith Cruz President and CEO of Treasure Coast Food Bank. “We’re thankful to have Wells Fargo as our presenting sponsor again this year, and we look forward to seeing everyone who participates each year at Pack The House.”

Pack The House began five years ago as part of Hunger Action Month, and each year brings out more than 500 volunteers who work in shifts over 24 hours to pack and sort food and other essentials in Treasure Coast Food Bank’s warehouse for distribution to those in need in the community.  This year, the challenge is to prepare 10,000 holiday food boxes by the end of the event.

In addition to Wells Fargo, several other steadfast supporters already have signed on. WalMart Distribution Center #7038 is the Ceremonial Sponsor. American Public Works Association is the Kickoff Sponsor. TD Bank is a Supporting Sponsor, and Bank of America, Cleveland Clinic Martin Health and Fort Pierce Utilities Authority are Shift Sponsors.

This year, Pack The House begins on Friday, Oct. 25 with an 8 a.m. kickoff breakfast provided by Treasure Coast Food Bank’s Healthy Harvest Catering. Packing will begin after the breakfast.

No one works without refreshments, though. Others providing food during Pack The House are Moonswiners Bar-B-Q, Cobbs Landing, Pappy’s Pizza, The Cake Lady, Dunkin Brands, Dixie Cream Donuts, and Starbucks Coffee.

The event wraps at 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 26 with a final tally of everything that has been packaged.

Everyone age 8 and over is invited to participate. Volunteers 16 and younger must have adult supervision. Join in by becoming a sponsor, or signing up to participate at stophunger.org/event/5th-annual-pack-the-house/.
