FORT PIERCE, Fla.– Treasure Coast Food Bank’s strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency has earned it a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating possible the very first time Treasure Coast Food Bank was evaluated.

“We’re very proud to have earned the top rating given by Charity Navigator,” Treasure Coast Food Bank CEO Judith Cruz said. “We take very seriously not only our commitment to fighting hunger but our commitment to our supporters that our work is done with the utmost fiscal integrity and transparency.”

Since 2002, Charity Navigator, using objective analysis, has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness to its ratings methodology.  These accountability and transparency metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders.

Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator, again upgraded its methodology for rating each charity’s financial health on June 1, 2016. The enhancements to the evaluation further substantiate the financial health of each 4-star charity.

“Treasure Coast Food Bank’s exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” said Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. “Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of our 4-star rating. This adds Treasure Coast Food Bank to a preeminent group of charities working to overcome the world’s most pressing challenges. Based on its 4-star rating, people can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support Treasure Coast Food Bank.”

The Charity Navigator 4-star rating is the most recent of several recognitions earned by Treasure Coast Food Bank in the past year. Treasure Coast Food Bank also recently was upgraded to a Platinum Guidestar participant for sharing its progress and results in fighting hunger, and earlier this year, Treasure Coast Food Bank was named among SLC’s Best Places to Work in 2016.
