What began as a way for Chaude to access healthy food for her own children during the summer, became a way for her to also support children and families throughout her community.
Chaude is a proud mother of two — Mahogany (age 8), and Damien (age 14). She’s not working right now, but since her kids are getting older and more independent, Chaude hopes to find a flexible job that still allows her to remain available for them.
The Food Bank delivers healthy summer meals throughout the Treasure Coast, including Chaude’s affordable housing apartment complex. The apartment office informed residents that the program needed a volunteer for it to run successfully, and Chaude happily stepped up to help.
The Summer Meals Program is a lifeline for parents like Chaude and their kids. Programs like this help keep parents from skipping meals to feed their children and ensures children have the food needed to fuel their growth and development.
“[My kids] enjoy the meals. [They] look forward to the social aspect and even ask for seconds sometimes,” Chaude says. “It’s good for [Mahogany and Damien] to have a safe place to come and have a good nurturing environment.”
Not only is Chaude helping her kids access healthy food but her neighbors’ kids too. Every day during the long summer break from school, many neighborhood children visit Chaude to receive lunch and a snack.
Your generosity helps relieve some of the pressure during the summer for parents like Chaude and her neighbors. Thank you for helping Treasure Coast Food Bank provide nourishing meals for local kids!
