FELLSMERE- After learning that toys for the annual Operation Hope Christmas party were in short supply, members of the Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club provided more than 200 toys for needy children throughout Indian River County.

The donations were made last week, just in time for the Christmas party on Sunday.

“This cause never gets old,” said Orchid Island Club General Manager Rob Tench. “It really warms the heart to know that so many children will have a smile on their face for Christmas.”

Toys ranged from bicycles to trucks to dollhouses, each designated for a child who might otherwise not have received a gift this year.

“We are very thankful to the members of Orchid Island,” said Jesse Zermeno, founder of Operation Hope of Fellsmere. “We were really falling short this year, and all these wonderful toys are really, really a big help.”

Also distributed at the party were donated citrus, vegetables, fruit juice and baked goods. Donations came from SunAg, Natalie’s Juice Company, Indian River Exchange Packers, Hale Groves and the Treasure Coast Food Bank.
