It’s a busy time at *Anna’s house. Her 4-year-old daughter is preparing to start pre-kindergarten and is already working on learning the alphabet and numbers.
Anna and her husband, *Ben, are focused on what this new school year will look like for their family.
Ben works part time at a hotel in Palm Beach while attending the police academy, working fewer than 15 hours a week so he can continue his training. Anna stays home to care for their daughter.
With a limited income and the rising cost of food, even basic groceries become harder to afford.
“You go to the store with a hundred dollars and it’s still not enough,” she says. “It’s affecting us because we have to pay bills and right now, I’m not working.”
Anna first learned about the food pantry at First United Methodist Church through a friend and now visits to help supplement her family’s grocery budget. She says eggs, milk, and beef are especially helpful to stretch meals at home.
“This is a blessing because, for example, if someone is short [financially] during the month, you can come here and take something home that will help you a lot,” Anna says.
