Kaye Johnson is a wonderful example of how we can make a meaningful and lasting impact when we come together.
She is the Sous Chef for The Source’s culinary training program. The Source Ministries is a Food Bank agency partner that supports neighbors experiencing homelessness by offering housing support, access to showers, laundry, health care, daily meals, and life skills development.
“This is what I do,” shares Kaye, “and it’s more gratifying than working for myself, because these people appreciate the meals.”
While Kaye leads the kitchen preparations including three daily meals in a restaurant style environment for residents, she also teaches culinary students alongside her team.
“Watching [students] get a fresh piece of food and seeing how grateful they are, that’s what makes it all worth it,” Kaye says.
Kaye is grateful to be a part of a program that uplifts through food and compassion. She’s also a big believer in mutual learning and often finds inspiration from her culinary students, picking up new methods and creative ways to be more efficient.
With help from your generosity, Treasure Coast Food Bank can continue to support our neighbors through our Agency Partners like The Source by providing fresh produce, healthy proteins, and wholesome staples to fuel their impactful programs and our neighbors facing hunger.
