For Shamain, choosing to volunteer was as simple as seeing a need at the Mobile Pantry and stepping in to fill it.

Every Tuesday at 7am, Shamain helps to prepare food and distribute groceries to her community. Neighbors receive healthy items like milk, bread, produce, pantry staples, and more.

“To see others coming from far away just to have something [in] their refrigerators to feed themselves and their families — it [is] profound to see,” Shamain says.

Shamain formerly worked as a massage therapist, but eventually, she couldn’t find enough work to keep a roof over her head and was in and out of shelters for a time.

Now, Shamain works for a local organization where she helps neighbors gain access to assistance programs and local resources.

“I made the decision and a goal to myself to help the neighborhood [and] to understand many of the resources that are around us,” Shamain says.

That support extends to the work Shamain contributes to Treasure Coast Food Bank each week.

We are so grateful for neighbors like Shamain who are investing in a stronger and healthier future for all.
