CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAMS

On the Treasure Coast one in four children experience hunger.

The problem of childhood hunger is not simply a moral issue. Child hunger and insufficient nutrition hampers a child’s ability to learn and grow. Scientific evidence suggests that hungry children are less likely to become productive adults.

More than 50,000 Treasure Coast children qualify for free or reduced price meals at school – giving them the fuel they need to get through the week. But what happens to these children at home over the weekend? Or during holidays and summer vacation when school is closed?

The local solution: Treasure Coast Food Bank Child Nutrition Programs

Our Child Nutrition Programs connect children with food in places where they live, learn and play. Every week, we distribute thousands of pounds of nutritious food to children and families in elementary and middle schools, after-school programs, food pantries, soup kitchens, summer feeding sites and mobile pantries throughout the Treasure Coast.

As the only Food Bank in the four-county area and a member of Feeding America, TCFB has exclusive relationships with all major retail grocery stores and is the sole distributor of USDA government food. We collect, store and distribute usable food and other essential products donated by major retailers including Publix, Winn Dixie and Walmart. We receive food from farmers, distributors and community food drives and we also purchase food at reduced costs.

Help end summer hunger by donating today.
