We are looking for a professional driver with experience behind the wheel to help train and educate the next generation of truck drivers here in Fort Pierce. The candidate must be a team player with good communication skills, patience, and the drive to help students build the skills needed for a career as a professional driver. Position Summary:

 

Put your Professional Truck Driving experience and expertise to use in improving the lives of others by joining the Job Training Team at Treasure Coast Food Bank. In this role, you will help prepare students for their Commercial Driver Permit Test and Commercial Driver’s License Test, including theory, skills, and road driving portions of their exams.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Lead classroom, yard, and road CDL Class A/B training
  • Present instruction in a professional, timely and accurate manner consistent with school standards, operating procedures, and curriculum guidelines
  • Be fully prepared and provide instructions, supervision, and monitoring of student actions in all phases of training & ensure students’ compliance with program policy and state regulations
  • Instruct classroom education, including computer-based learning and lecture format to engage students in theory component of course work and a successful pass rate of Commercial Drivers Permit Test
  • Review regularly all instructional materials to ensure they are appropriate for the program and relay recommendations for changes as needed
  • Evaluate students daily, make formal written evaluations regularly by utilizing appropriate academic & skill tests to ensure ongoing feedback for student success
  • Monitor student progress, identify any gaps and provide additional assistance as needed
  • Maintain proper documentation, including daily attendance, evaluation, and testing
  • Emphasize safety concepts, principles, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • At least 25 years of age and have a High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One (1) year of vocational education tractor-trailer driver teaching or driver trainer experience, or two (2) years of practical trucking-related experience that demonstrates instructional competency
  • Driving Experience: 1. At least five (5) years of verifiable truck driving experience in the most recent ten (10) years, with a minimum of one (1) year as a long haul/O.T.R. tractor-trailer driver or comparable experience preferred
  • A clean driving record for the past ten years
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle and work in the truck on roads in 4-to-8-hour shifts
  • Must meet the minimum qualifications for interstate tractor-trailer drivers following all requirements of the applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including, but not limited to, meeting the physical and driver qualification standards of Part 391, as well as be able to pass as D.O.T. drug/alcohol screen
  • Must have computer competency to enable operation of the computer-based learning platform, operate PowerPoint and other teaching aids and know how to navigate a web browser
  • Be patient and an excellent leader to students. Being a good truck driver is important but being an excellent teacher is essential. Must show an attitude that is favorable toward performance and success. Instructor attitude will be assessed according to professionalism, respect, motivation, maturity, and safety
  • Must have the knowledge, skill, and actual performance abilities that far exceed the skills identified in the objectives of the CDL curriculum.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate instructions to students, assess student performance, and provide students guidance on performing maneuvers
  • Demonstrate empathy in the classroom and yard with students, understand your role in making a positive impact in their lives
  • Must be available and willing to teach classes Monday through Friday
