The House of Representatives just introduced a bill that will affect how federal hunger-fighting programs operate for years to come. In a word – terrible.
It introduces HUGE cuts to important programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that helps feed millions of Americans every single month. In fact, 1 in every 4 children in this country receive food assistance from SNAP.
Cuts are unacceptable. Your Member of Congress needs to hear from you today: Stop this bill now.
As we sort through the bill to learn all the ways that it will affect Americans, we know one thing for sure: the Feeding America network of food banks won’t be able to absorb the impact of these cuts. This means if this bill passes in its current form, Americans may no longer have food to eat.
These senseless cuts take aim at some of the most effective programs we have as a nation when it comes to fighting hunger – programs that show who we are as Americans.
For example, SNAP is the single largest program directed at curbing hunger. This one program puts food into the hands of nearly 42 million Americans. Nearly half of all those SNAP recipients are under the age of 18.
Turning our backs on children, seniors and others in our community without enough to eat by slashing funding for this program is simply wrong.
Tell your Representative to vote NO on this dangerous bill – and that you expect them to vote against any bill that slashes food assistance for children and members of our community.
Thank you for taking quick action today and showing that Americans overwhelmingly support programs that help fight hunger.
