As a school counselor at Dan McCarty Middle School, Wendi noticed students asking if they could take food home after lunchtime. That was the spark that led Wendi to help start a Treasure Coast Food Bank Teen Pantry at the school.

Though the pantry only contained basic food items initially, it is now fully stocked — ensuring even more children have the essential school supply of healthy food.

“No child can learn when they are hungry… or worried about where [their] next meal is coming from,” Wendi says.

The pantry is also open all year round, including the summer and holidays. Before school breaks, special boxes of healthy food are distributed to students to ensure they have the nutritious food needed to support their growth and development.

“When a student walks into the pantry, … you can see the relief,” Wendi shares. “It’s not just about the physical items — it’s about [the students] knowing that they matter.”

With your support, we are setting up our students for success. With full plates, students are ready to engage in class this fall and know that they have somewhere to turn for support.

Thank you for investing in children and families along the Treasure Coast.
